Captains Newsletter

Hi All

They say time flies when your having Fun, and this can certainly be said about my Captains year, it feels like only yesterday when I took up the role, but here we are with only another 4 weeks left before I hand over to the Incoming Captain for 2024/25.

Firstly it has been an absolute honour to represent Wheatley Golf Club this year, we are a great club, let no one tell you different, and with all the improvements going on now and in the future we will become a club to be really proud of.

There have been numerous highlights this year, the scratch team gaining promotion to Div 1, they also achieved Automatic qualification for the Yorkshire Inter club competition, the 6 -18 team maintaining Div 1 status and also reaching final of the Inter club competition, we also won the Aitchkison trophy, and not to mention the Danum cup.

The club hosted some big events for England golf and Sheffield Union, a real credit to the course we have.

But my year was made great by the support of all the members, who turned out for the Competitions, social events and more, I will remember this year for ever.

So as we bring the Curtain down on what’s been a fantastic year for me, I have to thank those who have made it possible, The Committee for their continued support, The office Staff who have helped keep everything on track, Aaron for the time we spent playing comps and all his hard work this year, also his team who have given an able back up when he was not available.
Sophie and her team for Organising great events throughout the year, and Catering team for the meals provided especially at function events.

And lastly the lifeblood and unsung heroes Neil Bishop and his Team for producing the best golfing conditions I have seen in many years, the golf is only as good as the course you play on and ours is magnificent.

And lastly I wish the Incoming Captain Steve Gardiner every success in his Captaincy year, he has been a good friend for many years and I hope he has the same support I had.

Many Thanks and Best wishes to all.

Regards

Neil Scanlon | Captain 2023/24
