Captains July Newsletter

Hi Everyone

Well here we are over 5 months into my Captain’s year and it seems to be flying by!
July has not been to kind with the weather, but the golf has continued at a pace.

We had the first Invite Captains away day at Pontefract early July and I would like to thank the 48 who attended for the support and a great day was had by all.The second away day for all members who have put their names down is at Worksop on Friday 4th August and I believe we are taking 72 members for a day out at a good golf course, looking forward to the day.

The Golf club needs outside activities to Increase sales and profit and to that end we have some existing and new Events days that have been excellent for the club, namely Eco Power, Doncaster Cricket Club and Danum homes to mention a few, your support is invaluable and much welcomed, we hope these days continue for years to come.

COMPETITIONS

We had the Presidents day in Early July and the day was expertly hosted by Chris Hobson our president and his Family, it was a great day especially for me as I managed to shoot the lowest score of my golfing career to date on the day??. The evening event was excellent with a great bbq buffet served, numbers again were low but all who attended had a good time.
Hopefully we can get some bigger numbers for functions in the last three social events of the year, these do help support the club with funds going forward.

Most of the major Comps have been completed with some worthy winners looking at the results I have seen, my congratulations to all the winners and all who have taken part.
It will be nice to get all winners, Family and Friends to the presentation night to see them collect their trophies and prizes, may be worth a family or friends photo opportunity on the night.

The knockouts are getting down to the Quarter and Semi final stages now and the tensions are rising.

TEAMS UPDATE

The Scratch team have probably done enough now to gain promotion back to Division 1 of the Sheffield Union, which has been a great effort by all this year. We have one game left and it will be between Waterfront and ourselves who win the division.
Also the Scratch Team played in Division 2 of the Yorkshire Union team Competition and managed to gain promotion in difficult conditions at Hessle to Division 1, the Division 1 Competition was played at Hornsea last week and the Team managed a very respectable 8th place out of 18 clubs, and as the top 12 automatically qualify for division 1 we will not have to pre qualify next year, well done to the team and squad for keeping us up were we belong.

The 6 to 18 Team of Chris Nichols,, Malcolm Tuck, Darren Murrell and Jude Nichols won the Sheffield Union Atchison Trophy last week, great performance guys and congratulations.

The 6 to 18 side have also got to the final of the Sheffield Union Inter club Foursomes at Lindrick golf club on Monday August 28th tee off 2pm if any one wishes to go along and support the lads.
Good luck to the team.

Not a bad season for the profile of Wheatley golf club.

Some of our Junior players Joel Johnson, Jude Nichols, Lucas Bailey have also represented the club in some Sheffield Union competitions and have performed really well, all good for the future of Wheatley.

CLUB HOUSE

Well as you will of all noticed the long awaited works on upgrading our club house has begun, I cannot wait to see the finished article as I believe we will have a clubhouse to be proud of going forward.
Please all be careful whilst walking around the club as these building works are carried out.

As I said earlier, the weather has not been kind in July, but I think you will all agree the Golfing team we have in place from Aaron, Neil Bishop, Stephen Gardiner and Dave Brown with the support of all the Greens staff, have kept our course not only Open but in fantastic condition, a massive thanks to you all for the efforts you all put in.

I am looking forward to the Golf and Social events coming up throughout August and September so as always I wish you all every success and Happy Golfing.

Regards
Neil Scanlon
